BD&CGRC A.V. Retriever Novice Field Trial Winners

Judges: Jim Gale, Peter Castleman and Elizabeth Pelham
A super Ground, a generous host in Jerry– who knows exactly what is needed to host a Stake, being a Judge and Trialler himself. There were guest guns invited to shoot for the Trial including Alan Thornton who watched the dog work with an eagle eye!
The day flowed well with no waiting for the guns or drives. Plenty of game. Pity about the drizzle (but it could have been much worse.)

A super card of runners with some top class Labradors and their experienced handlers,
many of whom have made up Field Trial Champions in the past AND some lovely, good going Golden Retrievers to watch too.
Two points worth mentioning
In case any of you did not know - The Retriever Championship this year was won by a Golden Retriever for the first time for very many years , the last being in the 1980’s when Robert Atkinson won with FT CH Little Marston Chorus of Holway. This year Andrew Wright handling his father’s dog Marcus Maybe of Wadesmill reigned supreme and blazed his way into the history books.
Andrew is a member of this Society. He won our Novice Trial at Beaconsfield two years ago -I rushed to check my records, I thought that it just might be Marcus Maybe, but it was another dog he ran that day.- BUT Jim Gale won our Trial last year with Marcus’s litter brother AND Jim Gale was one of the 4 judges at the Championship AND Jim Gale was one of the judges of our Novice Trial this year. So should anyone think we are a little backwater Society as far as the working side is concerned, they’re wrong!
