Mrs Liz Borrow - (Deerflite)

After 30 years on the committee

Mrs Liz Borrow announced her retirement

At the Club’s AGM in March 2008 Liz Borrow retired from the committee.  Liz has been with the Club right from the start, being a founder committee member and has made an immense contribution to making this Club such a success.

Her affix of Deerflite is well-known and respected all over the world and her knowledge and experience has helped many Golden owners on their way.  Her stock and lines can be found in many pedigrees and over the years has proved to be an asset to many top winning kennels.

Top quality bitches, such as Ch Deerflte Endeavour of Yeo, born in 1969 and owned by Mrs Lucille Sawtell, went on to produce top winners, notably Sh Ch Concord of Yeo.  Other bitches that made their mark were Deerflite Fame of Starlance, Deerflite Pheasant, Sh Ch Deerflite Rainfall, Ch Deerflite Headline, Ch Deerflite Delilah and Deerflite Destiny at Linchael.  Along the way, there were some top producing dogs that enhanced many kennel lines. Her most famous dog Sh Ch Sonnet born in 1949 established the Deerflite kennel.  Deerflite Cresendo, Deerflite Tradition of Janville, Sh Ch Deerflite Paragon, and Deerflite Clay sired many champions and top winning stock.  Liz also had the eye to bring in new lines to compliment her own:  Dogs such as Raynesgold Rainaway; and her Wyvan Merrigo Likely sired Ch Chinnordale Dudley.

Liz was a well-respected Championship show judge who judged the breed at Crufts in 1991.

I have been fortunate to have know Liz for nearly forty years.  She was the first person that I met in Goldens when I attended my first show at Oxfordshire Canine‘s Open Show in 1969 and her advice, wise council and knowledge has been an asset to me over many years.

On her 80th birthday I enquired:  “How are you Liz?”  Her reply was:  “Feeling really good” …But her knees were playing her up a bit so she was thinking of packing in the stud work!

I would suggest that the world of Golden Retrievers has been very lucky to have had such an eminent and dedicated breeder to play her part in our breed, consistently producing such quality and pleasing dogs and her legacy “type” will live on through many kennel pedigree lines.
