FIELD TRIAL NEWS 2011

BD&CGRC A.V. Retriever Novice Field Trial Stakes

Held at Berwick Bassett, Wiltshire
By kind permission of Mr David White and at the invitation of  andy Purvis and Sid Vincent
on 1st November 2011

Judges: : Vic Olner, Peter Scott, Jennie Dimmock,  Frank White

A full card of 14 dogs, 7 golden retrievers and 7 labradors.

Our host, David White, is a keen conservationist and award winning amateur photographer and the day began walking up in strips wild bird cover crops with the field split either side of a hedgerow.  Several handlers struggled to get their dogs to the area and we witnessed a number of eye wipes by both competitors and judges.  Despite the good weather game was a little slow coming to hand and it was decided to move up onto The Downs where we had some mini drives.  The dogs were really stretched now as they were sent for very long retrieves across the undulating terrain.  Karen Pinker’s bitch,  Olivertash Mavis, in particular, performed a spectacular long retrieve resulting in her being awarded Guns’ Choice.

The combination of long tussock grass and seriously undulating hills made it a hard ground for young dogs and a number of dogs failed to pick, leaving 3 dogs standing at the end of the day.  The judges decided to :
1st - Withholded
2nd - Endacott Plover (Lab bitch) - Anne Courtier.
3rd - Nobsquinton India of Kestrelway (Lab bitch) -  Norman Onens
COM - Echobrook Dexster (G Ret dog) - Jacqui Crew.
